K9 NOSE WORK®
About K9 Nose Work®
K9 Nose Work® is a fun enrichment activity and sport that all dogs and their owners can enjoy. Using your dog's naturally keen scenting ability and instinctual drive to hunt with positive reinforcement techniques, your dog is encouraged to explore the environment around him by seeking out a beloved toy or treat. As the game progresses, your dog learns to hunt for specific target odors in a variety of challenging search environments including both indoors and outdoors with different boxes, containers, and even vehicles. We use many of the same training techniques implemented in professional canine handling and scent detection.
Benefits
Provides both physical and mental stimulation
Encourages the development of your dog's problem-solving abilities
Fosters confidence and independence in all dogs, including dogs that are environmentally sensitive
Provides a physical outlet for energy, from energetic puppies to senior dogs with disabilities
As you progress in K9 Nose Work®, you will learn to better observe canine behavior, improving communication skills between you and your dog, and deepening the bond between you and your beloved pet

Kathryn Woods
Educator, K9 Training Handler
Kathryn has a passion for nose work and teaching. She is a member of the National Association of Canine Scent Work and is a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) with this organization. She also has a masters degree in both social work (MSW) and special education (M.Ed.). Her background in psychology and education has prepared her well for sharing her knowledge and love of nosework.
Kathryn became personally involved in nosework in 2014 with the adoption of her Weimaraner, Grace. Since then nose work has had a positive impact on their lives. Grace has experienced both a decrease in anxiety and an increase in confidence. But most of all, it has deepened their bond between handler and dog. Kathryn also enjoys working and playing with her German Shorthaired Pointer, Greta. She continues to compete in various nose work trials and competitions. Both dogs have earned Elite NW3 titles and placements in the sport of nose work. Grace is the 1st Weimaraner to earn the Elite 3 title with the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW).
